The Italian West Alps We had some spectacular drives in the Italian West Alps (more videos at the end) But first we spent three days in Val Cenis Relaxing, walking and eating (fondue! 🤩) Before continuing towards the Italian Alps Climbing under ski lifts Onto gravel Lake Mont Cenis, but the gravel road was closed so turned back Into Italy Another narrow gravel road leading high up Towards Le gallerie del Seguret, an old military tunnel, unfortunately too low for Hercules Stopped before the tunnel Coming back down Camping Gran Bosco Made new friends at this great place for people interested in offroading and overlanding On our way to the Sommelier pass, the highest in Europe with 3000 meters. The pass was closed, but our question was how far up we could come with #Herculesthe6x6 A very popular route for motorbike We stopped before the scary hairpin bends started wondering… Would we be able to get through the many and steep hairpin bends up this hill? Seeing an equally large van coming down again, we decided to go! This only shows the nice bit of the ascent We made it to the top, but the photographer was too busy to take any photos before we stood at the top We kept going until 2600 meters and decided to turn around before the next set of even scarier hairpin bends Hercules and the Beast as tiny dots on the road Fridtjof found snow And Atle found a car that had broken down. But nothing we could do So, back to Gran Bosco for a well-deserved beer The Offroad campsite Fridtjof getting ready for a new day in Hercules Max at Gran Bosco pointing to a sticker for the Norwegian Land Rover Club after former guests (yes, we did identify who that was 😅) Day two starting from Gran Bosco, to new alpine driving The Beast underneath the ski lift At the top of Colle Basset, Piemonte From the top onto the narrow road going right here Perfect spot for lunch Lunch with a view Fridtjof! Colle Costa Piana The Beast climbing behind us Along narrow roads and steep hills Typical Defender passing One life, live it! Back into France Camping in Briancon A couple of videos below for a taste of driving a 6×6 Land Rover Defender on the narrow and twisted roads
